Trust Forever the Everlasting Rock

Isaiah 26:4 (ESV) – Trust in the LORD forever, for the LORD GOD is an everlasting rock.

Do you trust God? Don’t rush to answer the question. Ponder it with sincerity and reflection. Do you trust Him? Are you quick to worry, fret, and despair over difficulties or things you don’t control? When layoffs are announced, do you immediately lose sleep and find yourself unable to function? Does every ache of the body lead you to assume you’re dying of cancer? Does your mind race to every worst-case scenario?

If you answer “yes” to any of the above questions, you’re probably struggling to trust God. The opposite of worry, fret, and despair is peace and rest. Hope is a guiding characteristic of those who trust the LORD.

We read about trust in our passage today. Isaiah 26:4 says, “Trust in the LORD forever, for the LORD GOD is an everlasting rock.”

This is an exhortation. “Trust in the LORD forever.” To trust is to put confidence in or rely upon something. When you get on an airplane, you are trusting, not wishing. You believe with confidence that the plane is capable—along with the pilots—to get you safely to your destination. If you did not believe that, you would not fly. Trust is when you act on that confidence. The text tells us to trust in the LORD forever. This is not only a passage about the object of our trust (the LORD), but the duration (forever). We do not trust the LORD only when it is easy or for a temporary period. He is worthy of our trust forever.

What is the source of our trust in the LORD? His character. We read, “for the LORD GOD is an everlasting rock.” What does this mean? It means that God’s character is true and sure. He is a rock. Rocks don’t change. They are not easily moldable. They are considered stable and set. The LORD’s character is a rock, but even more so, an everlasting one. He is eternally the same. His character doesn’t fluctuate or shift with time. That is why you can trust God.

Where do you need to trust God today? Is there something in your life right now that you need to turn over to Him?

Is there a worry consuming you? Are troubles assaulting your mind and heart each day? Trust the LORD, friends. Trust Him forever. He is an everlasting rock and He is for you. Build your life on that truth.
